Courtesy of the great efforts by the Captain of the Nigeria National Amputee soccer team, Sarafadeen Oyeleke Olalekan, the game for the amputee is now gaining prominence in Kwara State.
Olalekan, who hails from Ira, Kwara State is determined to discover more amputees for the development of the game which he said has given him leverage to achieve his dream in life despite his disability.
With the training session of the Kwara team now held two days in a week, Sarafadeen believes that the game will spread like wildfire.
“We also need to get this message to all the nooks and crannies of the state. I am happy with the turnout we are seeing and I believe we will get more”.
Noting that the team now has about 15 members, he expressed optimism the players will grow through the training and discover their potential.
Kwara State team won the gold medal in the last National para sports festival which was held in Abuja this year’s April, the skipper believes that the state will retain the title in the next edition.
Like other disabled sportsmen and women, these amputees are braving the odds in order to prove that there’s ability in disability.
The team is open for anyone who wishes to join and many expect that efforts like this should be encouraged by the government, corporate bodies, and philanthropists.
This message also goes out there to people with disability that there’s great hope for them in Sports as our society grapples with the need to close up the yawning gap of inequalities.
