The New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) candidate and governor-elect, Abba Yusuf, was declared the victor of the Kano gubernatorial election on March 18, and the incumbent All Progressive Congress (APC) has instructed its legal team to seek redress.

Ahmed Aruwa, the party’s spokeswoman, revealed this on Saturday.

He claims the declaring process is outside the established electoral laws.

He declared, “The declaration of the election winner as announced by INEC contravenes the requirements of the statutes regulating the general conduct of the elections.

“The Kano APC questions the INEC results, which certified the NNPP candidate as the victor of the governorship elections.

“The requirements of the legislation regulating the overall conduct of the elections are violated by the proclamation of the winner of the elections as proclaimed by INEC.”

In opposition to the provisions of the electoral regulations, according to Aruwa, “INEC had acted by pronouncing Abba Gida Gida, as he is affectionately called, the governor-elect of the State.”

The state party hierarchy has instructed its legal arm to proceed with challenging the results of the elections before the Miller Road Court Complex’s state governorship election petition panel.

This incident occurs just a few days after Nasiru Gawuna, the state’s APC governorship candidate, congratulated the newly elected governor.
