Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared his optimism that the Supreme Court will still rule in his favour, should his opponent and former Governor, Gboyega Oyetola pursue the case further.
Governor Adeleke’s statement was due to the appeal court upholding his victory in the Osun State governorship election, held in 2019.
The tribunal, in January, confirmed the existence of over-voting in some polling units.
Nonetheless, a recent judgment by the appeal court reversed the tribunal’s ruling, which has stirred commendation, appreciation and congratulations pouring out from different quarters.
Governor Adeleke, in his interview on national television today, expressed gratitude to the citizens of Osun State for their massive support towards his leadership, dedicating his win to them and God.
He emphasized his trust in the democratic process, as there was no over-voting during the last election.
Governor Adeleke stated that he won convincingly, as the PDP won all three senatorial seats, as well as other important electoral positions, which emphasized the people’s choice of him.
He also stated that the appeal court judgment is a water-tight decision that no reasonable judge would have gone against. In his words:
“Democracy is at play here. If they feel like they should go to the Supreme Court, so be it. We shall meet at the Supreme Court. What gives the confidence is that my people love me and they voted for me massively. And the Appeal Court has vindicated that. There was no over voting. Our party, the PDP won all the three senate seats. We won everything.
“The Appeal Court is a high court. The judgment is a water-tight judgment. No any reasonable judge would go otherwise.
“Even if they go to the Supreme Court, it will still favour me”.
Taking everything into account, Governor Adeleke’s confidence in his victory has increased due to the appeal court’s judgment.
He has expressed his willingness to continue defending the rightness of his victory at the Supreme Court, should the need arise.
