Tragedy struck recently in Rivers State, as a father of three named Chukwuka Monye was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the Rumuokoro Junction in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
According to sources, the victim was working as a volunteer traffic warden, helping to clear a gridlock caused by a downpour when the incident occurred on April 1, PRISTINEGIST reports.
Witnesses reported that the killers were dressed in police uniforms, adding another troubling layer of complexity to an already devastating scenario.
An anonymous source revealed that the deceased had a previous issue with certain security personnel; however, the person could not provide any further details.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father, John Monye, a retired warrant officer, disclosed that someone called him using his son’s number to break the tragic news.
He pleaded with the state government to investigate the matter thoroughly and find out who is responsible for his son’s untimely death.
The late Chukwuka Monye was a quiet and intelligent first-class graduate who was well-known for his commitment to community service.
Married with three children, his father confirmed that his son had never been involved with any contentious group during his lifetime.
The sad incident was confirmed by Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokeswoman of the Rivers State Police Command.
She said the victim was shot by people wearing police uniforms, not certified police officers.
The Divisional Police Officer reportedly took prompt action, ensuring that the body was taken to a morgue.
The public eagerly awaits updates on the progress of the investigation into the incident, hoping that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
