KWASU VC, Akanbi laid to rest in Ilorin

 

The remains of the late Kwara State University (KWASU), Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, have been buried on Monday.

Akanbi, 51 was buried at his residence in the Tanke area of Ilorin amid tears.

The ‘Janazah’ (burial prayer) of the late Professor of Law had earlier taken place at his father’s residence in GRA in Ilorin.

The Janazah prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Soliu(OON).

Leading the roll of dignitaries that attended the prayer were Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, members of the State Executive Council, Grand Khadi of Ilorin, Justice Abdullatif Kamaldeen, and state APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi.

Other dignitaries at the final rites included the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede; Registrar of Kwara State High Court of Justice, Ibijoke Olawoyin; members of the academic community; members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Islamic organizations and Islamic scholars.

The legal icon died on Sunday at a Lagos Hospital after a brief illness.

He was appointed the Vice Chancellor of KWASU in the year 2020.
