Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet, and essayist in the English language, Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, has blamed the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for the hardship faced by Nigerians due to the implementation of the Naira swap policy.

On the Roadmap 2023 show of Channels Television, Mr. Soyinka also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of supporting the CBN governor.

Emefiele has engaged in behavior that is above and beyond any electoral mago mago (improper behavior), according to Mr. Soyinka.

“He struck at the core of the basic rights, needs, and survival principles of the common people on the street.

“Don’t mistreat me. Don’t take away my voice. Don’t diminish my economic potential or entitlements. Save me from being left at the mercy of sadists like Emefiele.

The CBN removed the previous N200, N500, and N1000 notes from circulation in December after introducing new notes in those denominations.

The strategy, intended to stop inflation and counterfeiting, produced havoc at ATMs and banks, and protests broke out in various sections of the nation.

Many Nigerians had trouble conducting business and making cash payments in their everyday dealings at the height of the uncertainty.

The policy was changed in March when the bank instructed commercial banks to continue accepting and dispensing the old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes in response to a Supreme Court decision.
