President Tinubu Mandates NYSC Inclusion for NOUN Graduates

In a landmark directive, President Tinubu has called for the integration of National Open University (NOUN) graduates into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), signaling a significant shift in educational policy.

During the 13th convocation ceremony of NOUN, President Tinubu, represented by Biodun Saliu of the NUC, instructed the Federal Ministry of Education to develop the necessary framework for NOUN graduates’ participation in the NYSC scheme, focusing on those who meet the service age criteria.

The move aims to resolve the long-standing issue of NOUN law graduates’ admission to law schools and reflects the government’s recognition of Open and Distance Education’s (ODL) vital role in the nation’s educational landscape.

ODL: A Vehicle for Sustainable Development

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing ODL, with the goal of widening access to higher education and meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The commitment to ODL is seen as a means to improve educational quality, access, and affordability.

Bridging the Admission Gap

Acknowledging the hurdles faced by school leavers in securing spots in conventional universities, the president emphasized the need for advanced technological research at NOUN. This approach is intended to accommodate more young Nigerians and bolster social safety nets.

NOUN: At the Forefront of Educational Innovation

The president expressed satisfaction with NOUN’s pivotal role in promoting the government’s educational objectives through information and communication technology (ICT), positioning the institution as a key player in the country’s educational advancement.
