A press statement was released in Kano advising against the purported use of government funds to sponsor the upcoming election. The statement claims that Kano State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has directed local governments to release funds amounting to millions of Naira to political thugs.
The funds are purportedly intended for the suppression of innocent citizens during the election. As a result, local government officials, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), treasurers, and other employees have been urged to keep a safe distance, ensuring that such funds are not used or returned.
It was also revealed that the Kano State Government has brought in thousands of thugs from within and outside of the state. This aims to destabilize the already fragile state ahead of the elections. Therefore, security agencies have been urged to take decisive action against potential thuggery attacks.
The statement concluded by warning that any employee found wanting will face the necessary action at an appropriate time. In essence, the statement serves in the public interest to proffer a warning to Kano State Government officials to avoid sponsoring violent attacks during the upcoming election.
Signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor-elect H.E. Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the statement calls on local government officials and security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct that would lead to a successful election.
