2022 FIFA XI: Oshoala Ignores As 23-players Women’s Squad shortlisted

The Nigerian striker finished last season as the joint-top scorer in Spain’s top flight and was in July, named Africa’s best woman footballer for a record 5th time.
Super Falcons and Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala has been omitted from a 23-player squad shortlist for the 2022 FIFA FIFPRO World XI.

It becomes the second global recognition nominees list that the Nigerian forward will be conspicuously omitted from, since becoming the first African woman to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or award.

In January, the 28-year-old’s name was missing as FIFA announced its nominated women players for 2022 The Best Football Awards.

While Oshoala might have failed to make the list, her Barcelona teammates Alexia Putellas, Caroline Graham Hansen, Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon, Irene Paredes, and Ellen White, who left Manchester United in the summer to join Barcelona were included on the shortlist.

Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema, Beth Mead, and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr forward Lucy Bronze. and Keira Walsh was among the players listed by FIFPRO.

Goalkeepers who made up the shortlist include Barcelona and Spain shot-stopper Sandra Panos, Lyon and Chile goalkeeper Christiane Endler, and Manchester United and England goalkeeper Mary Earps.

Wendie Renard, Ada Hegerberg, Ellie Carpenter, and Amandine Henry, all of Lyon, also cut.

The final 11 are to be announced later this month
According to the organizers of the award, players’ performances between 7 August 2021 and 31 July 2022 are the basis for the nominations, with a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three strikers expected to make the final 11 players.

The Men’s and Women’s World Eleven will be revealed by FIFA and FIFPRO on February 27, 2023.

The 2022 edition of The Best FIFA Football Awards will take place in Paris later this month.
