Jealous Lover Kills Girlfriend With Sledgehammer
A man killed his girlfriend with a sledgehammer in Lagos, the police said. Samuel Adeniyi hit her on the head and fled. He feared she would leave him for someone else.
The state police commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, announced this on Thursday. He spoke at a press briefing at the Police Officers Mess, Ikeja. He said Adeniyi would face justice. The police recovered the sledgehammer he used.
Owohunwa also paraded other suspects in Lagos. He said the police launched Operation Flush a month ago. The operation aimed to reclaim public space from criminals. The police raided criminal hideouts and arrested suspected cultists and armed traffic robbers.
He said the police recovered 18 firearms in two weeks. They included two AK 47 rifles and a unique gun. He said it was a weapon never found in the country’s criminal armoury. They also recovered two toy guns used for robbery.
Other items recovered were 15 cartridges, four expended cartridges, six matches, 34 bags of weeds, and two bags of fake foreign currency notes.
Owohunwa said the police also seized six kegs of fake Total engine oil. He said there was a syndicate adulterating engine oil in Lagos. The police cracked the syndicate.
He said the police arrested some suspects linked to the killing of a policeman in Ikeja.
