Nigerian Rapper Mohbad Dies at 27

 

Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning as one of its rising stars, Mohbad, has passed away. The rapper, singer and songwriter, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.

 

The cause of his death is still unknown, but entertainment journalist Ovie on X confirmed the news on his Twitter account. He wrote: “Sad news. Nigerian rapper Mohbad is dead. He was 27. Rest in peace, Marlian soldier.”

 

Mohbad was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s “Marlian records” and left the label in 2022. He rose to fame with his hit singles, Ponmo, Feel Good, and KPK (Ko Por Ke) with Rexxie, which earned him three nominations at The Headies awards in 2022. He was also known for his collaborations with other artists such as Davido, Zlatan, Bella Shmurda and Lil Kesh.

 

Fans and fellow musicians have taken to social media to express their shock and grief over Mohbad’s death. Some of his popular songs have been trending on various platforms as a tribute to his legacy. He is survived by his parents and siblings.
