Suspected Generator Thieves Flogged And Forced To Dance In Port Harcourt

Two men who allegedly stole a generator were caught and humiliated by angry residents of Elekahia community in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

The suspects were stripped, flogged, and made to dance in public as a form of punishment for their crime.

A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the suspects holding the generator and dancing to the amusement of the crowd.

The suspects also confessed to their crime and promised never to steal again.

According to reports, the suspects had stolen the generator from a house in the community and were about to escape when they were apprehended by some youths.

The youths then decided to teach them a lesson by subjecting them to public disgrace.

Some residents condemned the act of jungle justice, saying that it was barbaric and unlawful. They urged the authorities to intervene and ensure that the suspects were handed over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.

Others applauded the youths for taking action against the thieves, saying that it would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to engage in such acts.

Generator theft is a common crime in Nigeria, especially in areas where there is poor or erratic power supply. Many Nigerians rely on generators as alternative sources of electricity for their homes and businesses.
