Nigerians rejoice as pres. Tinubu approves immediate repairs of 260 roads across the federation

In a move that has been welcomed by many Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the emergency repairs of more than 260 federal roads across the country. The repairs will cover all the 36 states and the FCT and will cost about N217 billion.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this on Thursday after meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja. He said the President had also approved more road projects, including some upgrades and expansions.

Some of the major projects approved by the President include:

– The resurfacing of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, which is one of the longest bridges in Africa and a vital link between the mainland and the island.

– The construction of a road to connect the Lekki deep seaport, which is expected to boost trade and economic activities in Lagos and beyond.

– The reconstruction of two bridges that collapsed in Enugu state due to heavy rainfall and erosion.

– The reconstruction of two sections of the Onitsha-Owerri Road that were damaged by landslides and flooding.

– The upgrading of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia Road, which is a major route connecting the FCT with Nasarawa and Benue states.

– The dualization of the Lafia by-pass, which will ease traffic congestion and improve safety on the road.

Umahi praised the President for his commitment to improving the state of the roads in Nigeria. He said: “I have always commended Mr President for his deep interest in reinstating most of our roads in the country. Every day we get a lot of concerns from the public on the very deplorable situation of our roads, but there is no paper I brought in respect of that that Mr President has not approved.

Just yesterday he approved over 260 road interventions across the 36 states and the FCT. You will recall that last week he approved a lot of emergency roads and bridges repairs; we have three bridges that collapsed on the Southwest roads, he approved for reconstruction immediately. We have the Shendam-Lafia Road that collapsed, we also have the approval for its repairs.”

The news of the President’s approval has been greeted with joy and relief by many Nigerians who have been suffering from poor road conditions for years. Some of them expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the President on social media platforms.

One user wrote: “Thank you Mr President for this wonderful gesture. God bless you sir.”

Another user commented: “This is good news. I hope they will do quality work and not just patch up the roads.”

A third user said: “This is what we voted for. Tinubu is working. Nigeria is moving forward.”
