The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwara Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adegbulugbe Phillip Olumide has issued a statement regarding the incident that occurred at Oja Oba roundabout in Ilorin today.

Earlier today, there were reports of a collision involving a Correctional Service vehicle and an Okada rider at Oja Oba roundabout in Ilorin.

However, subsequent rumors emerged suggesting that there were fatalities and severe injuries.

Several hours later, a press release was issued and signed by Adegbulugbe Phillip Olumide, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwara Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service. It reads:

“On the 19th of October 2023, at approximately 09:14 am, a group of individuals, in a deliberate and premeditated act, created a chaotic scene at Oja Oba roundabout as they attempted to forcefully gain access to the convoy of custodial vehicles transporting high-profile inmates, including AbdulAzeez Adegbola (Tani Olohun), to the court. This led to a state of pandemonium, resulting in significant damage to the Correctional vehicle.”

He further explained, “This incident resulted in injuries sustained by both Okada riders and some of our custodial personnel. Additionally, two custodial vehicles that managed to secure their passage were later intercepted and attacked at the Niger road Junction. The personnel of the Correctional Service managed to navigate their way to the court safely.”

The statement also confirms that those who sustained injuries have been promptly taken to the hospital for necessary medical attention and are responding well to treatment. Importantly, no lives were lost during this incident.

“We would like to express our appreciation to all sister agencies for their demonstrated collaboration and cooperation. We assure the public of our commitment to maintaining a harmonious relationship at all times. Thank you,” he concluded.
