Woman killed by runaway truck in Onitsha
A woman was killed by a truck that rolled off without a driver inside it in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Ezeiweka Road axis of the Onitsha—Owerri Road, around 3 pm, while goods were being offloaded from the parked truck.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck suddenly moved and sped towards the road, hitting the woman and crushing her to death. The woman was also trapped under the truck.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS5.3A1 Upper Iweka Outpost, Anambra State, and the Awada Police team arrived at the scene and tried to rescue the victim and clear the obstruction caused by the accident.
They also searched for a crane to lift the 40ft container and retrieve the corpse of the woman.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the identity of the woman and the driver of the truck were not yet known. The police said they were investigating the cause of the accident and the whereabouts of the driver.
