Man Rapes 70-year-old Woman To Death In Lagos

A man, Jelili Lawal, has been accused of raping a 70-year-old woman to death in an uncompleted building in Lagos.

The case was reported to the police by two ladies who heard the victim’s cries for help and caught Lawal in the act.

The victim, who had a hearing problem and was missing from her family, had met Lawal at the Maryland area of Lagos on January 1, 2019.

She had asked him to help her find her way home, but he gave her N500 and lured her to the Shoprite bus stop, where he took her to the bushy area and raped her.

She died from excessive bleeding from her anus and vagina as a result of the brutal assault.

This was revealed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Babatunde Ashifat, who testified as a witness at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday.

He said he received the case for investigation on January 2, 2019, and issued a medical form for the victim to be taken to Mirabel Medical Centre.

He said the medical doctor who examined her confirmed that there was a forceful penetration on the vagina.

He also said he recorded the statements of the victim and the defendant and visited the scene of the crime.

The state counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, led him in evidence in chief.

The judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, adjourned the case till October 27, 2023, for further hearing.
