JUST-IN: Victor Osimhen Crowned 2023 CAF Men’s Player Of The Year

The Nigeria and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has been crowned 2023 Confederaton of Africa football (CAF) Men’s Player Of The Year award.

Osimhen beats former Manchester City star Mahrez, who won the CAF Award in 2016, also PSG and Morocco defender Acraf Hakimi.

Osimhen scored 26 goals for Napoli last season lifted the club to its first Serie A title in 33 years.

 

The Napoli striker, who was ranked 8th best player in the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

 

 

Osimhen has become the first Nigerian to do win the award after Nwankwo Kanu victory in 1999.

 

Osimhen not only propelled Napoli out of the Champions League group stage but also led them to a historic quarterfinal appearance.

 

The Nigerian forward fired home five goals in six games to lift the Neapolitans to unprecedented heights in Europe’s premier competition.

 

This achievement, unmatched even in the days of Diego Maradona, highlights Osimhen’s impact on the European stage.

 

Osimhen has already clinched numerous accolades in 2023, including Serie A Best Striker, Capocannoniere, and Serie A Goal of the Month in January.

 

He was named in the Serie A Team of the Season, and was the recipient of Ghana Football Awards’ Best African International, Serie A Footballer of the Year, and Serie A Team of the Year awards.

 

In a historic moment, Osimhen became the first Nigerian to secure a top-ten ranking in the Ballon d’Or, finishing at number 8.
