Falconets Unveil Squad for 2024 African U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

 

In anticipation of the 2024 African U-20 Women’s World Cup qualification last round, the Falconets of Nigeria, led by Head Coach Christopher Danjuma, have unveiled a 25-player squad, prominently featuring 24 home-based talents.

Among the goalkeepers selected for the squad are Faith Omilana from Naija Ratels and Anderlin Mgbechi representing Delta Queens.

The defensive lineup includes players like Shukurat Bakare from Nasarawa Amazons and Kehinde Afuye from FC Robo Queens.

Moving into the midfield, the squad boasts talents such as Taiwo Afolabi from Delta Queens and Chinyere Kalu representing Nasarawa Amazons.

The attacking force is set to include Janet Akekoro­mowei from Asisat Academy and Mary Nkpa from Heartland Queens. The selected players are poised to kick off their training camp in Abuja on December 27, 2023.

As the qualification journey unfolds, the Falconets are gearing up to face Burundi in a critical fixture. The first leg is scheduled to take place in Bujumbura over the weekend of January 12-14, 2024, with the return leg set for the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on January 20, 2024.

The stakes are high, as the winner of this intense encounter will secure one of the highly sought-after four World Cup slots designated for the CAF region. Enthusiasts eagerly await the unfolding drama as Nigeria’s emerging football talents strive to leave their mark on the global stage.
