5 Promises From Tinubu’s New Year Message

In his New Year’s address to the nation, President Bola Tinubu outlined his vision and plans for Nigeria in 2024, promising to deliver on key sectors such as electricity, petroleum, food, and investment.

The president, who took office in July 2023, reflected on his journey to the presidency and commended Nigerians for sustaining democracy for 24 years. He also reviewed his achievements in the past seven months, stressing his efforts to avert a fiscal crisis by removing fuel subsidies and easing the pressure on the foreign exchange market.

He admitted that these measures caused some hardship for Nigerians, but assured them that better days are ahead. He said his administration will focus on accelerating the pace of service delivery across various sectors in 2024.

Some of the highlights of his 2024 agenda include:

– Ensuring a reliable supply of electricity by partnering with Germany on the Siemens Energy power project and improving the transmission lines and the national grid.
– Restarting local refining of petroleum products with the completion of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the Dangote Refinery.
– Boosting food supply, security, and affordability by cultivating 500,000 hectares of farmlands to grow maize, rice, wheat, millet, and other staple crops.
– Attracting local and foreign investments by simplifying the fiscal and tax policies, removing any obstacles to business competitiveness, and promoting Nigeria as a destination of choice for investors.
– Implementing the 2024 budget, which prioritises national defence and internal security, job creation, macro-economic stability, investment environment optimization, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security.

The president urged Nigerians to remain united, hopeful, and resilient in the face of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. He wished them a happy and prosperous new year.
