Bridegroom Flees From Wedding Ceremony In Imo State After Being Fined Repeatedly

A wedding ceremony in Imo State turned into a comedy of errors when the bridegroom ran away from the venue through the bush, leaving behind his bewildered bride and guests.

The bridegroom, identified as Biobelemoye David, was reportedly fed up with the excessive demands and fines imposed on him by the bride’s family, who accused him of various offences.

According to a Facebook post by Igwe Chibueze Ogadimma, who witnessed the incident, Biobelemoye David had paid N1,500,000 for the food, tents, chairs and a public address system for the ceremony.

He had also agreed to pay N100,000 as the bride price, but was asked to add N50,000 more because he had impregnated the girl before marriage.

He was fined N10,000 for taking the wrong route to the bride’s house and N15,000 for keeping the elders waiting.

The final straw came when he was presented with twelve girls in loose robes and asked to identify his bride. He picked the wrong one and was fined another N15,000.

He was also asked to refund N850,000 to the bride’s father for damaging his old car.

Unable to bear the humiliation and frustration, Biobelemoye David excused himself to urinate in the bush and never returned.

He switched off his phone and was last seen driving to Bayelsa State from Imo.
