FASU President Akinsanmi Femi and Others hold “Ayo Olopon competition”

The Federation of Ayete Student’s Union (FASU), under the leadership of President Akinsanmi Femi, organized “the Ayo Olopon competition” at Sunwa Motor Park, Ayete.

The event, held yesterday, aimed to promote the Yoruba cultural heritage through this traditional sport game.

Olatunji Bisola, the General Secretary, who represented the Union President, emphasized that Ayo Olopon remains a cherished Yoruba traditional game, unique despite the influences of civilization.

However, the competition sought to encourage interest in the game among the youth and contribute to preserving Yoruba cultural values.

Bisola highlighted the responsibility of every Yoruba to preserve and promote their rich culture worldwide, transcending various social classes.

Nevertheless, another executive, Shittu Suliat, expressed that the competition aimed to unearth raw talents within the community, providing an opportunity for recognition and participation in state-level competitions.

Referring to Aristotle’s quote, “Talent is culture with insolence,” Suliat emphasized that nurturing people’s talents is a means of cultural promotion.

The competition saw 14 participants, with Babatunde Mayowa emerging as the winner, followed by Fasasi Jeleel in second place and Mr. Fadairo Semiu in third.

The presence of political figure Iyan Buru and various Union Stakeholders, including former FASU President Comrade Fadeyi Isiaq Olalekan and others, added significance to the event.

Their attendance underscored the importance of community involvement in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
