Elevating Expectations: Kwara United’s Bold Move as Tunde Sanni Salihu Assumes Chief Coach Role

Kwara United Football Club is set for a transformative shift as it bolsters its technical crew during the ongoing 2023-2024 NPFL season.

In a strategic move announced on Monday, January 8, 2024, the management has appointed Coach Tunde Sanni Salihu as the Chief Coach. Coach Tunde, formerly the Chief Coach of Abia Warriors Football Club and the Kwara State Chairman of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

The decision for this reshuffle was prompted by the recent performance of the team, which led to Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo and his technical crew receiving a three-match ultimatum.

Following a goalless draw against Niger Tornadoes and subsequent losses to Pillars and Lobi Stars, the management deemed the team’s performance unsatisfactory. A meeting held at the FA Office resulted in the approved shake-up to bring about positive change.

While Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo retains his position as Technical Adviser, Coach Tunde Sanni Salihu steps in as the Chief Coach. Additionally, Coach Olaniyi Mukaila Shittu continues as the Assistant Coach, and Coach Bolaji Abdulkadri assumes responsibility for Kwara United’s junior team.

Chairman Kumbi Titiloye expressed the necessity of these changes to reignite the team’s winning spirit, urging players and the technical crew to step up and acknowledge the commitment from the government and stakeholders.

Titiloye expressed concern about the team’s recent performance and stressed the importance of avoiding behaviors that could undermine their abilities both on and off the field, including involvement in betting.

The Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa, pledged ongoing support to ensure the team receives the best possible assistance in its duties before, during, and after matches.

High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, a prominent football stakeholder, echoed the sentiments of dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and called upon the players to reflect, make corrections, and elevate their game.

Captain Bamidele Aiyenugba, Assistant Captain Kabir Balogun, and other players pledged to foster unity and togetherness within the team, committing themselves to the overall success and advancement of Kwara United.

As the club undergoes this strategic transformation, there is a collective determination to overcome challenges and restore the club to a position of pride and success in Nigerian football.
