Oyo Explosion Update: At Least 2 Persons Dead, 50 Injured, 100 Rendered Homeless

A massive explosion rocked Adeyi Avenue of Bodija Estate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday night, killing at least two people and injuring many others.

The cause of the explosion, which occurred around 10 pm, is still unknown, but witnesses said it was followed by a loud bang and a fire that engulfed several buildings in the area.

According to Leadership Newspaper, rescue workers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began to evacuate the dead and injured victims. Some of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals, while others were pronounced dead at the scene.

The rescue workers also faced the challenge of digging through the rubbles of the collapsed structures to search for possible survivors who might be trapped underneath.

The Oyo State Government, in a statement issued on Wednesday, expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that it was doing everything possible to rescue the survivors and ascertain the cause of the explosion.

The statement also urged the residents of the affected area to remain calm and cooperate with the security and emergency agencies, who were working round the clock to restore normalcy and prevent further damage.

The explosion has raised concerns over the safety and security of the residents of Ibadan, as well as the state of the infrastructure and facilities in the city.
