Unilorin Expels Postgraduate Student Involved in Sexual Assault Scandal

The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) has expelled  postgraduate student Mr. Mathew Adeboye Balogun, also known as Plato from the Department of Councillor Education, Faculty of Education for sexual molestation against vulnerable students and admission seekers.

According to a letter from the University’s Student Affairs Unit, dated January 3, 2024, and signed by Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mr. Moses Opaleke, Balogun was expelled after admitting to the charges during the second sitting of the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 19, 2023. The committee had initially invited him to appear on October 16, 2023, a summons he failed to honor.

The letter highlighted the gravity of the misconduct, stating that Balogun had taken unlawful advantage of vulnerable individuals, promising to influence their academic results or secure admissions in exchange for sexual favors.

However, this action is in violation of specific clauses outlined in the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.

The university’s decision to expel Mr. Mathew Adeboye Balogun comes after the matter gained attention on social media, prompting an investigation into the allegations of sexual molestation.

The letter of expulsion was served on October 25, 2023, marking the conclusion of the disciplinary process and emphasizing the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful academic environment.
