Fulfilling Pledges: Kwara Governor Hands Over N6M Cheques to School Debate Victors

 

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON)has fulfilled his administration’s promise by presenting N6 million in cheques to six outstanding public school students who emerged victorious in the presidential debate competition in Abuja.

According to a statement released by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, January 31, 2024, the event was graced by government officials, traditional chiefs, and parents of the accomplished students.

Ajakaye reported that the Governor commended the students—Mashood Kamaldeen, Jatto Ramatallahi, Jimoh Abayomi Emmanuel, Emmanuel Chioma, Dolapo Mariam, and AbdulKareem Uswat—for their remarkable achievement.

However, Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated the government’s commitment to closely monitor the educational progress of these students, expressing pride in their accomplishments.

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the Governor emphasized the allocation of billions of naira to educational and hygiene programs like AGILE and WASH.

He underlined the state’s dedication to creating conducive learning environments and improving the safety of pupils in schools. The Governor also acknowledged the commendable efforts of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and pledged continued support.

The event featured statements from distinguished figures, including Hon. Baba Muhammed Boriya, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, and Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development. The traditional institutions were also recognized for their support, and the Governor sought further collaboration to enhance service delivery in the education sector.

Prof Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, Chairman of Kwara SUBEB, expressed gratitude to the Governor for keeping his promise and anticipated further successes for the students.

He revealed that the students would represent Nigeria at the World School Debate Championship in Serbia. Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), commended the Governor’s unwavering commitment to education, predicting a favorable place for him in history.

Dr. Jato Muhammad Awal, speaking on behalf of parents, commended the Governor’s visionary approach and expressed gratitude for the efforts to expand the educational sector.

The parents collectively extended their heartfelt thanks, wishing the Governor continued blessings. The ceremony underscored the government’s dedication to fostering excellence in education and nurturing the potential of Kwara’s youth.
