BLOOD FOR WATER: NEIGHBOUR KILLS LAGOS HOUSEWIFE IN BRUTAL KNIFE ATTACK

A Lagos housewife, Barakat Adio, met her untimely death on Sunday when she was stabbed by a neighbour, Cynthia Aigbondon, over a trivial dispute about fetching water at a public tap in the Ajegunle area of Lagos.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased and the suspect had a heated argument over who had the right to use the only functional borehole in the neighbourhood. The argument soon turned violent, as Cynthia ran into her room and came back with a kitchen knife. She then stabbed Barakat on her left side, leaving her bleeding profusely.

The suspect was apprehended by other neighbours who witnessed the gruesome incident and prevented her from fleeing the scene. She was later handed over to the police for further investigation.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and said that the suspect had been arrested and charged with murder. He also said that the husband of the deceased, Lukmon Adio, had reported the case at the police station around 9.45pm on Sunday.

He said: “The husband of the deceased came to the station and reported that his wife was stabbed to death by their neighbour, Cynthia Aigbondon, over a minor issue of fetching water at a public borehole near their house. The suspect has been arrested and will face the full wrath of the law.”

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and grief among the residents of the area, who lamented the scarcity of water and the lack of security in the neighbourhood. They called on the government to provide adequate water supply and ensure the safety of the people.
