Osun State Extends Tenure of LG Caretaker Chairmen

 

Osun State House of Assembly has approved the extension of the tenure and reappointment of the 69 Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Caretaker Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Scribes, and their members today.

This decision, effective from February to August 2024, was announced in a statement by Olamide Tiamiyu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly (OSHA).

The extension was initiated following a letter from the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, presented to the House by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, during Friday’s Plenary session.

However, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi, representing Ede North State Constituency, moved the motion for the extension, which was seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Adewale Akerele from Ilesa West State Constituency.

Highlighting the constitutional authority of the State Assembly to approve such extensions in line with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, Hon.

Babajide Adewunmi emphasized the need for careful consideration of the caretaker committees’ performances. Following thorough deliberation, the members adopted the motion, officially approving the request and extending the tenure of the Caretaker Committees until August 2024.

In response to the decision, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun congratulated the Caretaker Committees and urged them to persist in delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the grassroots, reinforcing the importance of their continued service to the people.
