SHOCKING: Lagos State Staff To Work 3-Days A Week to Ease Economic Hardship

In a bid to alleviate the suffering of the masses amid the soaring cost of living in the country, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a series of drastic measures that will affect the public and private sectors.

The governor, who spoke at a media parley on Thursday, said he would be reducing the working days of civil servants from the lower level to three times a week, and those from level 15-17 to four times a week, starting from next week.

He also said he would open Sunday Markets in 42 locations across the state, where residents can buy food items at discounted prices, with a limit of N25,000 per person.

In addition, he said he would construct four food hubs and identify seven more locations for future development, to ensure food distribution and availability in the state.

He also announced a 25% reduction on transport fares for the state public transport system (BRT, Train, Ferry), starting from this weekend.

Furthermore, he said he would offer free delivery, including cesarean session, for pregnant women at government hospitals, and give rebate on some drugs at the same facilities.

He also said he was in talks with various transport unions to persuade them to lower their fares, and urged the private sector to emulate their role during the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the citizens.

He expressed empathy with the people and said he was not unmindful of the situation, adding that as leaders, he and his team must be able to solve socioeconomic problems.

The governor’s announcement has elicited mixed reactions from the public, with some commending him for his efforts, and others questioning the feasibility and sustainability of his plans.
