BLOODSHED IN EDO: MOB MURDERS TWO POLICEMEN, INJURES TWO MORE IN COLD BLOOD

A violent mob of Ikpeshi youths unleashed terror on two riot policemen, beating them to death and leaving two others critically injured in a horrific incident at Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo state.

The savage attack was sparked by a fatal accident involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to escort-duty policemen in the convoy of former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje, which collided with a motorcycle, killing the rider, a woman, and her child on the spot.

The enraged mob stormed the office of Edo State Security Vigilance Network, where the two policemen were taken for protection, and overpowered the security personnel, dragging the policemen out and lynching them mercilessly.

Two other policemen who were also in the vehicle managed to escape the wrath of the mob, thanks to the intervention of the vigilance members, who also recovered their rifles.

The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Edo, while their colleagues mourn the loss of their comrades.

The chairman of Akoko-Edo local government council, Tajudeen Alade, expressed his outrage over the barbaric act of the Ikpeshi youths, and vowed that the culprits would be brought to justice.

He said that the local government would work with the police to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, to serve as a warning to other miscreants who might want to take the law into their own hands.

The Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), also confirmed the incident, and appealed for calm and restraint from the public.

He said that the police would not tolerate any form of lawlessness and violence, and urged the people to cooperate with the authorities to maintain peace and order in the state.
