“Police Arrest Sergeant For Slapping Woman”

In a shocking turn of events, the Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Police Sergeant Samuel Imakor following allegations of assaulting a civilian, Mercy Ajayi. The incident, which was captured in a viral video and widely disseminated by blogger Harrison Gwamnishu, has sparked widespread condemnation and prompted swift action from law enforcement authorities.

SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer, revealed that the sergeant was detained by the Divisional Police Officer of the Iruekpen Police Station and subsequently faced questioning by the Commissioner of Police. During the interrogation, Imakor admitted to the act of slapping Ajayi, although he claimed it was in retaliation to being slapped by her during her arrest for alleged theft.

The Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has not only ordered Imakor’s arrest but also initiated an immediate disciplinary procedure against him. An orderly room trial is to be conducted by the Command’s Provost Marshal, reflecting the gravity with which the command views such unprofessional conduct.

In light of these events, SP Nwabuzor has called upon the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of police misconduct, underscoring the command’s commitment to maintaining professional standards and accountability within its ranks.
