Duplex of Deception: Police Uncover Job Scam Haven in Lagos, Rescue Dozens

In a shocking turn of events, the Lagos State Police have cracked down on a nefarious job scam operation, rescuing at least 50 individuals, including children, from a duplex on Omola Road, in the Edemola area of Epe, Lagos.

The victims, hailing from neighboring African countries such as Cameroon and Gabon, were lured into Nigeria with the false promise of employment opportunities. Upon arrival, they found themselves entrapped by a gang of job scammers who had stripped them of their finances.

The Okeoyibo Police Division, which is currently sheltering the rescued persons, revealed that many had been deceived into paying large sums of money to the scammers. Heartbreakingly, some victims had even sold their homes and possessions back in their home countries to fund their journey to Nigeria.

The police investigations have brought to light that the victims were confined to the duplex under strict instructions not to leave until employment was provided. For some, this imprisonment lasted up to six months.

SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the main suspect has escaped to Cameroon. He clarified that the victims were not kidnapped but were misled and left stranded without resources. “The ring leader is on the run,” SP Hudenyin stated. “He gave all of them the same arrival date, collected their money, and promised to return, only to abandon them and flee back to Cameroon.”

The police are now intensifying efforts to track down the culprits as the rescued individuals begin the process of recovery from their harrowing ordeal.
