Ramadan: Mahamadou Diawara Left France Squad Over Fasting Ban On Muslim Players

Lyon Midfielder, Mahamadou Diawara left France’s U-19 squad after the French Football Federation installed new rules forbidding Muslim players from fasting during Ramadan.

The rule means players are not allowed to fast when training with the national team.

Mahamadou Diawara was sent home after refusing to stop his fast for the eight days of international duty.

According to ESPN, the French Football Federation (FFF) has implemented a rule prohibiting Muslim players from fasting during the month of Ramadan while training with national teams from age groups to senior teams.

Lyon’s young midfielder Mahamadou Diawara does not feel comfortable with the new rules. He finally left the France U-19 squad for the friendly match against Germany.

FFF has confirmed Diawara’s return to his club. Instead, they called up Dehmaine.Tabibou Assoumani from Nantes.
