Tragic Electrocution Claims Young Life in Abeokuta
Tragedy struck at Omolore housing estate in Abeokuta, Ogun state, when a young girl, 15-year-old Miracle Ogbonna, was fatally electrocuted. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 31, as she was drawing water from a well.
The Ogun State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident. A report was lodged by Onyekachi Silas, who detailed the events leading to the unfortunate event. According to Silas, the electrocution happened during a sudden restoration of electricity by the local power distribution company, which energized an exposed wire connected to the well’s pump.
Miracle, who was residing with her sister and brother-in-law, was immediately rushed to Rose Hospital following the incident. Despite prompt medical attention, she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The police have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances of the young girl’s death. Meanwhile, her remains have been transferred to the Oke Lantoro morgue. The community has been left in mourning, and there is a call for increased safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
