Morocco: A classic definition of a country passionate about changing the face of Africa’s football

Morocco may have continued to make waves in the ongoing FIFA World cup in Qatar, however, their historic exploits are not just a fluke; they are a metamorphosis of a football country doing everything right to make it work.

Morocco’s recent success at the world cup, which has ultimately paved way for more African teams to participate in the 2026 world cup, is not the only thing of note about the national team or the Moroccan football governing bodies. Here a few things they have achieved;

– The CAF Confederations Cup was won by the BERKANE of Morocco

– Africa’s version of the UEFA Champions league, the CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE was won by WYDAD CASABLANCA, a Moroccan football club

– Like their male counterparts, ASFAR, the women football club of Morocco clinched this season’s CAF Women Champions League.

– The CHAN Championship which is a mock up of the African Nations Cup, but only played by home based African stars was won by Morocco.

– The Moroccan women national team will be heading to the women’s world cup for the first time in history.

In case you do not know, all these achievements are result of years of commitment of the Royal Moroccan football federation to its male and female team, hence the success they achieved  in 2022. In a period where other big Africa footballing nations have chosen nepotism and corruption over giving the sport sector a face lift, Morocco have decided to take the initiative, and are today a country of pride for not only Africa, but the entire middle east.

Morocco may just have opened the eyes of many African nations. They may just have discovered the recipe and the resources for a good meal for their brothers, how the rest of Africa chose to turn up for the occasion will determine the future of African football.
