Defusing Terror: Young Boko Haram Bomb Experts Embrace Peace in Borno

Monguno, Borno State – In a striking victory for peace, two young individuals, previously under the command of the notorious Boko Haram group, have laid down their weapons and surrendered to military forces in Borno State. The surrender, which occurred in the Monguno Government Area, is hailed as a significant triumph in the relentless efforts to neutralize Boko Haram’s terror activities.

The duo, identified as Bana Modu, aged 13, and Abubakar Mohammed, 19, also known as Garba, were tasked with planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across strategic locations. However, in a courageous act of defiance, they chose to abandon their lethal mission, taking with them the very IEDs they were meant to deploy.

Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer in Ndjamena, revealed that the young men’s decision was influenced by the successful execution of Operation NASHRUL SALAM, a non-kinetic initiative by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). The operation’s psychological tactics proved instrumental in persuading the pair to seek a non-violent path.

Recovered from the surrendering individuals were two IEDs, two mobile phones, and a sum of N53,000. This event not only represents a personal turning point for Modu and Mohammed but also signifies the broader impact of the MNJTF’s strategy to encourage insurgents to renounce violence and contribute to the establishment of lasting peace in the Lake Chad region.

Colonel Abdullahi reaffirmed the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to its mission of restoring peace and normalcy to the Lake Chad Basin, urging other hidden terrorists to follow in the footsteps of Modu and Mohammed. The MNJTF continues to extend an open invitation to all combatants willing to lay down their arms and join the journey towards reconciliation and reconstruction.
