Tragic End in Lagos: Man Drowns While Fleeing Alleged Theft Accusation

In a shocking turn of events, a man known only as Azeez has met a tragic end in the waters of Lagos. The incident, which occurred at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge, unfolded when Azeez allegedly plunged into the lagoon to evade arrest after being accused of stealing cement bags.

The Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the distressing news, stating that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) alerted the authorities on Friday. The report came in after a distress call was received about an incident at the bridge around 10:45 am.

Eyewitnesses gathered by the waterside, where they witnessed the grim sight of Azeez’s lifeless body. Paramedics from Pre Hospital Care, Lagos, later declared him deceased.

The pursuit by Elijah Amos, the cement seller, is believed to have precipitated Azeez’s desperate leap. The police have since visited the scene, and Azeez’s body has been transferred to Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy and preservation.

This incident has cast a somber shadow over the community, raising questions and concerns about the circumstances leading to such a desperate act.
