Fall From Grace: Police Inspector Dismissed Others Demoted for Alleged Robbery and Kidnapping

In a stunning revelation that has shaken the foundations of the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector Adabo Mohammed has been stripped of his rank and dismissed from service following serious allegations of involvement in robbery and kidnapping within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The announcement came on Friday, May 17, when Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, detailed the nefarious activities of Mohammed and a five-person gang. The group is accused of orchestrating a heist that resulted in the theft of N29.8 million from an individual in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja.

The saga of corruption doesn’t end there. The disgraced officer was also implicated in the abduction of Ikechukwu Emmanuel Okafor in Tunga Maje, Abuja, from whom a ransom of N4.4 million was extorted. Mohammed’s fate now lies in the hands of the judiciary as he has been formally charged and awaits trial.

In a related crackdown on corruption within the force, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has sanctioned the demotion of three inspectors. The officers, identified as Osagie Efford, Semiu Agbekin, and Francis Ahuen, were formerly attached to the Special Tactical Squad (STS) in the FCT. They faced allegations of intercepting an unregistered Mercedes Benz in Gwarinpa and extorting N29.4 million from the occupants.

Adejobi confirmed that while the extorted funds have been returned to the victims, the officers have been subjected to an orderly room trial and demoted by the law.

The series of events has cast a spotlight on the ongoing battle against corruption and misconduct within the ranks of Nigeria’s law enforcement, prompting a call for systemic reform and integrity among the nation’s protectors.
