EFCC speaks over recovered AGF Fund

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed its efforts at recovering the stolen fund by the former Accountant General of the Federation AGF, Ahmed Idris.

Today, the EFCC Chairperson, Abdulrasheed Bawa while addressing a press briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the presidential villa, Abuja divulged that #30billion has been retrieved from the stolen funds.

Speaking during the press briefing, Bawa affirmed that the commission is independent without any individual or body controlling its activities. He further assured the general public that the commission remains unfazed and committed to the effective delivery of their duties.

Earlier this year, The then AGF, Ahmed Idris was arrested in Kano after he failed to respond to several invitations by the commission to answer questions over the allegation of N80 billion fraud levelled against him.

Since his arrest, there have been lots of investigation and probing and in July, he was arraigned alongside some individuals who were also privy to the fraud in persons of Mohammed Kudu Usman, Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

The EFCC indicted Idris and his co-defendants on a 14-count charge of stealing and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N109.5 billion.
