Enugu Rangers International has been crowned champions of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after a decisive 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in week 37.
The match, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium today, 16th of July 2024, saw goals from Chidera Ezeh and Ibrahim Yusuf, securing Rangers’ 8th league title.
The win solidifies Rangers’ position at the top of the table with 68 points, making it mathematically impossible for the second-placed team, Rivers United, to catch up, even with one game remaining in the season. This triumph marks Rangers’ first title since 2016, adding to their illustrious history of championships in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, and 2016.
Despite this impressive achievement, Enyimba FC remains the most successful club in the NPFL, holding a record 9 league titles. Enyimba’s dominance in Nigerian football is highlighted by their titles won in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2019, and 2021.
