Taliban restricts females from attending Universities

The Taliban of de facto rulers on Tuesday placed a ban on its female population from attending universities and from seeking higher education in Afghanistan.

According to a statement released by the Afghanistan forces’ Ministry of Higher Education, the order is effective immediately. It will therefore complete all the constraints the Taliban has continued to impose on Afghan women since coming into power

The statement reads, “Based on cabinet decision…education for women is suspended until further notice. The decision should be implemented immediately.”

Recall that the Taliban seized power about 15 months ago and instantly deprived girls of their fundamental rights to attend secondary education. However, women were permitted to enrol in universities until recently. To date, no sovereign country recognises the Taliban movement.
