Kano Judicial Service Commission Takes Disciplinary Action Against Erring Magistrates and Registrar
In a shocking turn of events, a Kano High Court magistrate, Talatu Makama, has been caught attempting to steal funds from a frozen bank account, leading to her immediate recall from the bench and relief from judicial duties.
According to a statement by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Makama’s misconduct was uncovered through investigations by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee, which found her guilty of ordering the transfer of money from a petitioner’s frozen account to her account.
The JSC has also taken disciplinary actions against three other judicial officials, including Senior Magistrate Rabi Abdulkadir, Chief Magistrate Tijjani Saleh-Minjibir, and Senior Registrar Abdu Nasir, for various misconducts, including judicial recklessness and receiving payments meant for court records into personal accounts.
The commission has emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of judicial conduct and ensuring the integrity of the legal system and has vowed to continue applying appropriate sanctions against erring staff to safeguard public confidence.
