BREAKING: Protest As Pastor Egbaji Arrested In Benin Republic, Chained To Bed

Abuja, Nigeria – A group of protesters gathered outside the Republic of Benin Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday, demanding the release of Pastor Benjamin Egbaji, a Nigerian citizen who has been detained in Benin for over a year without trial.

Egbaji, a pastor and businessman, was accused of rape by a Beninese citizen, Pede Victoire, but protesters claim the allegations are unfounded and that Egbaji has been subjected to mistreatment and xenophobic attacks.

The protesters, led by Ayobamidele Kehinde, International Director of Dynamic Ambassadors for Social Transformation and Orientation Initiatives, brandished placards and called on the Nigerian government to intervene in the matter.

“We cannot claim to be members of ECOWAS and suffer like this,” Kehinde said, referencing the Economic Community of West African States. “We have intel that the judge is under pressure to sentence Benjamin to ten years imprisonment.”

The protesters submitted a petition to the embassy, urging the Beninese government to release Egbaji and address the alleged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in Benin.
