COURT ORDERS DEPOSED EMIRS TO STOP PARADING AS ROYALS

Kano, Nigeria – In a landmark ruling, the Kano State High Court has permanently restrained Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other deposed Emirs from parading themselves as Emirs. Justice Amina Aliyu delivered the judgment, directing the deposed Emirs to hand over all royal artefacts to the government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The court also validated the Kano State Assembly’s repeal of the Emirate Council Law 2024, stating that it was done in accordance with the Constitution. Additionally, the court upheld Governor Abba Yusuf’s assent to the law as constitutional.

The deposed Emirs are restrained from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye, and must vacate their palaces. However, the issue of evicting Bayero from his Nassarawa mini palace was deemed a rent tribunal matter and was not addressed in the judgment.

This ruling brings an end to the legal battle between the deposed Emirs and the Kano State Government, solidifying the government’s decision to depose the Emirs and appoint new ones.
