THEFT AT INDOMIE WAREHOUSE: THREE GUARDS DOCKED FOR N1.1BN INDOMIE WAREHOUSE HEIST

Abakaliki, Ebonyi State – Three security guards, Idika Chukwu, 70, Nwachukwu Abel, 47, and Mbam Moses, 58, were arraigned before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court on Tuesday for allegedly stealing goods valued at N1.1 billion from the Indomie Noodles Warehouse in Uburu, Ohaozara.

The defendants, who were charged with conspiracy, warehouse breaking, and theft, allegedly committed the offences between August 2023 and July 2024. According to the Prosecutor, Eze Chinagorom, the guards broke into the warehouse and stole various items, including packets of blank cover, pillar lights, bedside lamps, wall bracket stands and covers, and reflectors.

The stolen goods are valued at N1.1 billion, and the offences contravene Section 390(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol 1 Law of Ebonyi State, 2009.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Intelligent Ekwe, applied for bail, promising that his clients would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties. He also requested that the case be transferred to Ohaozara, where the matter originated.

Magistrate Mrs Sandra Ifeanyi-Onyibe granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two reliable sureties in like sum. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The case was adjourned until September 5.
