POLICE, SHI’ITES CLASH IN ABUJA: 2 POLICEMEN DEAD, 3 UNCONSCIOUS

Abuja, Nigeria – A violent clash between police officers and members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, has left two policemen dead and three others unconscious in Abuja.

According to a press statement released by the FCT Police Command, the incident occurred at Wuse Junction by the traffic light, where the Shi’ite group attacked a police checkpoint unprovoked. The attackers wielded machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives, and also set three police patrol vehicles ablaze.

The police have effected several arrests and promise to bring those involved to book. The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, condemned the unprovoked attack on police officers and assured that the situation is presently under control and normalcy has been restored.

The incident occurred on August 25, 2024, and further development will be communicated in due course.
