HURIWA Tells Tinubu: Crack Down on Kidnappers or Resign

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against kidnappers or resign from office. In a statement released on Saturday, HURIWA expressed outrage over the widespread insecurity and incessant kidnappings across the country, describing Nigeria as a failed state under Tinubu’s leadership.

The human rights group criticized the current administration’s failure to address the spiraling security challenges, noting that the situation has only worsened since Tinubu assumed office over a year ago. HURIWA accused the government of lacking transparency and allowing corruption and impunity to thrive within the security outfits.

The group’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, stated that if the government cannot guarantee the security of its citizens, it has lost its legitimacy. HURIWA also criticized the National Assembly for their perceived negligence and accused lawmakers of abandoning their responsibilities while Nigerians continue to suffer.

The group expressed outrage that the National Assembly went on a two-month recess despite the worsening insecurity, describing the legislators as “a bunch of gangsters, more like legislative bandits.” HURIWA called on President Tinubu to take stern action against insecurity or resign immediately, as his administration has failed in its primary duty to protect Nigerians.
