Akpabio Fumes As PDP Clears Akwa Ibom LG Polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, winning 30 out of 31 councils. The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) announced the results on Sunday, with the PDP winning all councils except Essien Udim LGA, the hometown of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious.
However, Akpabio has expressed dismay over the PDP’s sweeping victory, recalling his tenure as Governor (2007-2015) when he allowed the opposition to win some elections. He criticized Governor Umo Eno’s handling of the elections, accusing him of disregarding the opposition.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives member Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (YPP) described the elections as “shambolic” and called for calm among his supporters. His colleague, Uduak Odudoh (PDP), dismissed claims of rigging, arguing that the PDP had campaigned effectively and the opposition was unprepared.
*Controversy Surrounds Akwa Ibom LG Polls*
The local government elections in Akwa Ibom State have been marred by controversy, with opposition parties crying foul over the PDP’s overwhelming victory. While the PDP has been declared the winner in 30 out of 31 councils, opposition leaders have alleged irregularities and disenfranchisement.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who lost in his hometown of Essien Udim LGA, has expressed disappointment and recalled his tenure as Governor when he allowed the opposition to win some elections. However, his criticisms have been met with responses from PDP leaders, who argue that the elections were free and fair.
