Police Arrest Notorious Armed Robber and Rape Suspect in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a 33-year-old man who has been on the police wanted list for armed robbery and alleged rape of female students of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun, Ogun State.

Olayemi was arrested on Monday by the Igbeba Division of the Ogun State Police Command in Ijebu-Ode, following a tip-off that he was spotted in the university area, where he was trying to conceal his identity.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, Olayemi was the prime suspect in an armed robbery and rape incident that occurred on July 21, 2024, at the female Royal Villa accommodation area in Tai University of Education, Ijagun.

During the incident, Olayemi and his cohorts allegedly robbed female students of their valuables, including laptops, iPhones, sports wristwatches, and cash, and also raped one of the students.

The police have commenced a preliminary investigation into the incident and have taken Olayemi into custody at the Igbeba police station for further interrogation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has directed that Olayemi’s cohorts be arrested and has appealed to the Ijagun community to provide credible information to assist the police in tracking down other members of the criminal gang.
