Flying Eagles begin their campaign in the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo on a disappointing note, lost 0-1 to their opponent Burkina Faso.
The competition acts as a qualifying round for the AFCON U-20 Nations Cup, which will determine Africa’s FIFA U-20 World Cup representatives.
At the Municipal Stadium in Lome on Friday night, the Nigerian squad lost to the Burkinabes by a goal in the first half of their Group B opener.
The side led by coach Aliyu Zubairu is in a vulnerable situation in terms of earning a spot in the AFCON U-20 Nations Cup, which will take place the following year, after losing to the Burkinabes.
To have a chance of making it to the semi-finals, the squad needs to defeat Côte d’Ivoire in the second and last group game.
