The 36 state governors have agreed to meet with representatives from all the nation’s financial and economic institutions to discuss concerns related to their states’ security votes.

This information was provided by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, director of media and public affairs for the NGF Secretariat.

According to Bello-Barkindo, the purpose of the conference was to resolve contentious issues concerning their states’ security votes and devise a better method of managing the monies.

According to an invitation from the NGF Director-General, Mr. Asishana Bayo Okauru, he stated that the meeting would be held virtually to ensure that all pertinent personnel would be present.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were among the organizations he cited as having been invited to the meeting.

The summit, according to Mr. Bello-Barkindo, would also discuss deepening and expanding the cashless policy, which went into effect in 2022 after the naira notes were redesigned to promote financial inclusion for all Nigerians.

He said that a letter dated March 30 and signed by the agency’s director, Modibbo Tukur, and addressed to the NGF chairman, requested the meeting on behalf of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, or NFIU.

A consensus on harmonizing and updating national standards for business entry and tax collection is also on the agenda. This will help in the effort to address the FATF and EU greylisting in which Nigeria appeared.

The governors were urged to prioritize the meeting by Mr. Bello-Barkindo because the NGF emergency meeting that was held on Thursday covered its topics.

At the meeting, everyone agreed that it was crucial to have another meeting with the agencies.
